The Gbe Republic is a country located in West Africa. The country borders the Republic of Ghana to the west, the Republic of Yorubaland to the east, the Atlantic Ocean to the south and the Sultanate of Sokoto to the north.
History[]
When the French left West Africa following their defeat in World War II, the Republic of Dahomey, which operated on a functioning democracy, established on the former French Dahomey colony. Dahomey was initially stable, however, the situation continued to deteriorate as time went on. Finally, a bloodless military coup was expected to be led by the general Christophe Soglo. But, Soglo refused the position, leaving the President's seat open and dividing the army into two cliques - one for the coup and one against it. Seeing that nobody wanted to assume the seat, the pro-coup clique nominated Ibrahim Babangida to the seat. Babangida then inaugurated in 1961, leading to the establishment of the Gbe Republic.
