The Hawaiian Missile Crisis is an ongoing diplomatic crisis between the United States of America and Japan, over the placement of nuclear missiles in Hawaii by the latter and in Australia by the former.
History[]
Background[]
Following the atomic bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Hawaiian islands have been under Japanese occupation. Tensions remained high between the two Pacific powers, and the United States would defy the Akagi Accords by granting statehood to Hawaii.
Japanese missiles[]
The Japanese military decided that the time had come to show the Americans they meant business, and deployed nuclear missiles to Hawaii. This lead to an immediate crisis once they were discovered by American spy planes.
Diplomatic crisis[]
A series of tense negotiations followed, with the threat of nuclear war looming high above both powers. Vice President John F. Kennedy has taken the lead over President Richard Nixon in the negotiations, and it seems a resolution will come soon.
