Igor Shafarevich (born 3rd June 1923) is the leader of the Russian National Party, which forms the moderate "moralist" wing of the Passionarity Organization, the far-right coalition in Komi. He calls himself a proponent of "National Democracy" and "Compassionate Conservatism".
Biography[]
Early-life[]
Born to his mathematician father Rostislav Stepanovich Shafarevich and Yulia Yacovlevna Vasileva in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, young Igor Shafarevich had a bright future in academia. Igor was taught by his parents so when it came time for him to attend school, he could already read and write, so he was put straight into the second class. Shafarevich's main interests were history, literature, mathematics and music. His love of literature began when he read stories such as Greek, Russian, and German fables. These stories also gave him an international perspective.
Political career[]
At some point, Shafarevich arrives in Komi, where he joins the Passionariyy Organization founded by Lev Gumilyov. He becomes leader of the moderate "moralist" wing where most of the organization's popular support comes from. The combination of respect for the republic and reaffirming of national traditions attracts many voters to his cause and the organization in general.
Present day[]
In 1962, the political situation is rather tense, as both the Communist Party of Komi and Passionaryy are waging war on one another, combined with a fact how center-aligned democrats are mostly former Soviet officials. The only way of achieving his goal seems to be cooperation with Gumilyov and his organization. The future of Passionarity will be decided on who has the most influence, and it is unlikely he will let that chance slide that easily.
In-game[]
What distinguishes Sharafevich from all other leaders of Komi is that he cannot coup the government by his own. The reason for this is because Shafarevich at the time of elections is heavily tied to the Passionaryy Organization, and has no actual governmental power to lead his own ideological struggle, with Gumilyov having the highest say in things. In order to play as him, the player would need to coup the government as Gumilyov, and afterwards, through focuses, it is revealed that due to key differences as well as the stabilization of new founded regime, Shafarevich decides to split from the hardliners of Passionaryy. There, the player can decide to either boost his influence and elect him all alone, or the player can form a coalition with Ivan Serov to get him into power more swiftly, without worry about political influence.
Once that is all done and the region has been reunified, Shafarevich's goals and ideology can finally be implemented into practice. In his political branch of focus tree, Shafarevich implements the ideas of "National Democracy" and "Compassionate Conservatism," which in practice, as revealed in the super-regional stage, is chauvinist and a semi-discriminatory version of our timeline Putinism with Shafarevich going so far to not even create controlled opposition and instead at the voting ballots, to only have his name as an option on who to vote.
His economic branch of the focus tree is mostly focused on improving agriculture, with a focus titled "The Village Idyll" revealing that Shafarevich, as a part of his ideology, follows the path of agrarianism, which heavily boosts the overall agricultural development and equipment. Infrastructure and city building are also planned upon the same ideological goals, with focus "Compassion before Materialism" indicating that economy follows some form of quasi-corporatism.
In regards to diplomacy, while he does not plan to join any international organization, he still is willing to cooperate with Italy, the United States and Scandinavian countries in order to assert Russia's stance against Germany and their puppets.
Quote upon unification[]
"So long as the moral tone is preserved, the sun of our glory will not set; there will come no national decay and death."
—Frederick William Robinson
