- Léo Cadieux was an important francophone Canadian politician. A war correspondent during the Second World War and later a member of the Liberal Party of Canada, he began his career in 1962 by being elected to the House of Commons. In 1965, Léo Cadieux was appointed Associate Minister of National Defence in the cabinet of Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson. Two years later, he assumed the leadership of the ministry and held it until 1970. During this period, the Minister divided by two the number of Canadian troops deployed in Europe under NATO. Léo Cadieux ended his career as his country's ambassador to France from 1970 to 1975 before passing away in 2005.
