Panteleimon Kondratyevich Ponomarenko (born 9th August 1902) was a Soviet politician, leader of the Byelorussian SSR and leader of the resistance movement in Belarus during World War II and the West Russian War.
History
Before the war he was appointed by Nikolai Bukharin as the leader of the Byelorussian SSR. During the German attack on the USSR, he was the leader of partisan forces in Belarus. Abba Kovner's biography shows that he and his partisans allied with Abba Kovner and his United Partisan Organization in the guerrilla struggle against the rule of the Reichskommissariat Ostland. He was presumably killed in action during the West Russian War.
