Sergey Bessonov (born 6th August 1892) is a Soviet politician, member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Irkutsk.
In-game[]
At the start of the game, Bessonov is the foreign minister for Irkutsk under Genrikh Yagoda. While Yagoda represents the more cynical State faction of Irkutsk politics, Bessonov is the head of the more idealistic Party faction. If the player takes decisions that empower the Party faction of Irkutsk politics, Bessonov will oust Yagoda and assume control over Irkutsk.
While Yagoda established a rule of fear and sought to establish a cult of personality surrounding him, Bessonov will prove to be more down to earth - whereas Yagoda will attempt to establish a cult of personality surrounding him by having him photographed doing "manly" things, Bessonov will not do such a thing, instead using the photos that Yagoda took as a source of humor after Yagoda's removal from power. He is also shown to view Yagoda as a traitor to the ideals of socialism, as shown in an event at the super-regional stage.
Bessonov proves more flexible than Yagoda, as in addition to being able to unify with the same warlords as Yagoda (the People's Revolutionary Council at the regional stage, Nikita Khrushchev's Tyumen, Georgy Zhukov's West Russian Revolutionary Front and Mikhail Suslov's Komi at the super-regional stage). He is also capable of unifying with Komi if led by Svetlana Bukharina.
Quote upon unification[]
"Our party, like any other political party, strives for political supremacy for itself."
Trivia[]
Statements by one of the developers, Pacifica, have implied that Bessonov's successor will be the one Soviet leader currently not in The New Order, Konstantin Chernenko.
