Shimon Peres did aliyah in 1934. He is a prominent figure in Mapai, known widely for his extremely high work ethic, and fully believes in the values of Labor Zionism: a solidary and egalitarian society for the Jewish people, which will be a beacon of light for the non-Jewish world. He is unpopular with most Mapai members despite his work ethic because of his ideas for the Levantine union, which he claims is the only way to create a lasting peace in the region.
Assuming he successfully replaces Ben-Gurion, Peres runs with a platform of strengthening the Levantine Union and tremendous support from a number of technocratic people in Israel in hopes of creating a new era of technological prosperity for the entire Levant.
