William Vacanarat Shadrach Tubman is a Liberian politician who is currently serving as the 19th President of Liberia. He is the longest-serving president in the country's history as he has been serving since 1942. Additionally, he is the leader of the True Whig Party.
Tubman is regarded as the "father of modern Liberia" in that during his presidency it has become the richest state in West Africa and a significant regional trading power thanks to him managing through the postwar chaos and refugee crisis of the 1940s and attracting sufficient foreign investment from foreign companies. Following the Axis powers' victory in the Second World War, he has led a policy of neutrality and distanced the country from the Organization of Free Nations in order for Liberia to pursue more independent diplomatic and trade policies with other powers.
He has been accused of corruption, political repression and abuse of power for personal gain.
